Project Abstract

Our plan is to repair and refurbish a pinball machine. In refurbishing it, we will be replacing design features of the existing machine with new features that we design to reflect aspects of Severn’s history. To do this, we will do extensive research in the Severn Archives on characteristics and events of Severn’s past to incorporate into the machine. We would like this machine to illustrate Severn’s vibrant history and make it easier for people to interact with Severn’s past. To make this history accessible to all, we plan to create a guide on this website that will include pictures of each of the pinball machine’s characteristics, identify what it represents in Severn’s history, and an ID of that object/moment. When the machine and guide are completed, we would like the machine to be placed somewhere in the school for student and guest use.

Project Impact

This pinball machine will provide a way for Severn students to interact with the school's past. While the simple act of having a pinball machine would provide entertainment for students, the historical aspects and informational guide will allow them to “play” Severn’s history and further understand it. When students know Severn’s past, they can connect with Severn’s alumni and contribute to Severn’s future.
